Luton agree to terminate Zimbabwean midfielder’s contract by mutual consent
Luton have confirmed that midfielder Marvelous Nakamba has left Kenilworth Road after a mutual agreement was agreed to terminate the Zimbabwe international’s contract with immediate effect.
The 32-year-old, who had featured for Club Brugge and Vitesse Arnhem earlier in his career, initially moved to Bedfordshire in January 2023 on loan from Aston Villa, and made 20 appearances as the club won promotion to the Premier League via a penalty shootout victory over Coventry City in the play-off final at Wembley, Nakamba on target from the spot.
He then returned to Town that summer on a three year deal for an undisclosed fee, as he made 14 appearances in the top flight before suffering a knee injury while on World Cup qualifying duty with Zimbabwe that ruled him out of the remainder of the campaign. Last term, Nakamba made 23 appearances, while this season he made four outings, as he leaves the Hatters with 61 appearances to his name.
In a statement on the club’s official website, Luton CEO Gary Sweet said: “Marvelous has been a huge part of our success, a special character who came to add real quality at the time we needed it to help us to promotion.
“He has been a pleasure to have around the club, always smiling, even through some tough times personally with injury. Everyone at Luton Town thanks Marv for his contribution in his three years at Kenilworth Road, he will always be a welcome visitor, and we wish him every success for his future career.”
