‘They’re proud of me’: Ben Curran’s emotional journey back to Zimbabwe

For Ben Curran, cricket is more than just a career — it’s a family bond that stretches across continents. Fresh off his first Test win with Zimbabwe, Curran reflected on the emotional journey that brought him back home and the strong family ties that continue to fuel his ambition.
“It’s a great honor to represent Zimbabwe,” said Curran, who grew up in Zimbabwe before moving to England.
“Coming back and playing for the country where I grew up means a lot. It’s something I’ll cherish forever,” he said.
Despite being miles apart, family remains central to Curran’s cricketing life. His brothers, Tom and Sam Curran, are well-known names in English cricket, and Ben leans heavily on their support.

“We speak almost every day, especially during matches,” he said. “We’re very close as a family. They’re proud of me, and I know they’re always watching.”
The Sylhet victory, Ben’s first in Test cricket, was a significant step, but he knows there’s more to do. “Test cricket is hard. Bangladesh will come at us strongly. We have to stay focused and adapt quickly.”
Curran credited Zimbabwe’s experienced heads, Sean Williams and Craig Ervine, for helping him settle into international cricket. “I try to learn as much as I can from them. It’s vital for my growth,” he said.
Despite Zimbabwe’s recent struggles on the world stage, Curran believes brighter days are ahead. “We have a good mix of youth and experience. We just have to keep building, one match at a time,” he added.
“When I look back one day, I want to remember these moments with pride — for myself, my team, and my family,” he said.
