Tembo gives reasons why accepting Richards Bay FC job was ‘right decision’

Richards Bay FC head coach Kaitano Tembo has offered an explanation on why taking the Natal Rich Boyz job made sense.
The Zimbabwean coach parted ways with Sekhukhune United in November last year following a run of poor results.
He was appointed to spearhead the KZN side in July, replacing Vasili Manousakis, who was sacked together with his two assistants Pitso Dladla and Ronnie Gabriel at the end of the previous DStv Premiership season.
Despite not starting the 2023/24 season well, Tembo has helped Richards Bay end a 20-match winless streak. Bay collected their first win of the season on Friday, beating Moroka Swallows 1-0 courtesy of Justice Figareido’s strike.
The former SuperSport United coach says he took Richards Bay’s job to test his abilities in a place where he’s not comfortable. He believes a tenure in the Zululand will improve his coaching.

“Yeah, it was the right decision, because for me I also have to be in a difficult place and be able to show what I can do as a coach,” he told the media.
“And not to be in a comfort zone where I can be able to get whatever I want. I need to show my abilities as a coach, and try to to improve players.
“Hence I took this challenge because I knew I had to improve myself in terms of coaching ability because this team requires a lot of coaching.
“We can have more time together especially on the training field to try and improve players.”
Tembo’s side sits 15th on the log standings having accumulated only five points in 6 games.
Richards Bay’s next task will see them locking horns with Chippa United in a league match on Tuesday, 19 September at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
