SA: Zimbabwean man hangs himself after ‘strangling’ sugar mama to death

SOUTH AFRICA: A 40-YEAR-OLD Zimbabwean national hangs himself.

This after he allegedly strangled his 50-year-old lover to death.

The victims’ bodies were found at an advanced stage of decomposition in a one-roomed house in Maunandzhele Village under the Vhembe district, Limpopo, on Wednesday, 5 November.

According to police in Limpopo, the pair was in a relationship, and the woman was assaulted before she was strangled to death.

Police spokesman Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said: “Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased woman, aged 50, was in a relationship with the deceased man, a 40-year-old Zimbabwean national. It is suspected that the male assaulted and strangled the female before taking his own life.

“Further information indicates that the woman’s family members last saw the couple on Saturday, 1 November 2025, at around 6pm, and made the grim discovery days later when they went to check on them.”

Acting Limpopo police commissioner Major-General Jan Scheepers has expressed concern over incidents of gender-based violence and intimate partner killings.

“This tragic incident once again highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence. We urge anyone experiencing abuse to seek professional help before losing their lives,” said Scheepers.

Police investigations are continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
