SA: Kruger United closing in on a top Zim goalkeeper

By Far Post
SOUTH AFRICA: Motsepe Foundation Championship side Kruger United is one step closer to sealing the transfer of one of Zimbabwe’s best goalkeepers, FARPost can reveal.
Kruger United look set to finally land the services of Donovan Bernard, who they have been chasing since the 2024/25 season.
Bernard may have played his last match for Chicken Inn FC on Sunday when they drew 0-0 with Highlanders FC in the league.
FARPost understands that the two sides, Chicken Inn and Kruger United, have already agreed on terms over the transfer. However, they are awaiting completion of some key formalities.
The Motsepe Foundation Championship side, Kruger United, will be hoping Bernard makes a significant impact as they aim for better strides next season. They ended the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship season in fifth position with 45 points from 30 matches.
Bernard has been one of the top-performing goalkeepers in Zimbabwe. In the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, Benard won the Golden Glove award.
He ended the season with 20 clean sheets in 34 matches. That was the highest among all goalkeepers in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League of Zimbabwe.
In addition, the talented goalkeeper has played for Zimbabwean clubs that include the now-defunct Motor Action and How Mine FC. He also played for Ngezi Platinum Stars.
He was at some point the trusted hands for The Warriors of Zimbabwe, having made his debut in September 2014.
Bernard went on to earn 11 caps but has been overlooked in recent times. The 29-year-old last featured for The Warriors during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers played in June 2024.
Bernard guarded the goals when Zimbabwe lost 2-0 to Lesotho. He was benched when they lost 3-1 to Bafana Bafana in Bloemfontein. Meanwhile, he almost played for Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in 2022, but the deal was unceremoniously dropped.
