South African coach Thabo Senong has found his way back to Zimbabwe again despite all the issues that accompanied his appointment for another job earlier this year.

Senong agreed to join popular Bulawayo club Highlanders as head coach earlier this year.

He then travelled to start his duties but then found himself not staying after Benjani Mwaruwari was given the job via the club’s benefactor.

This then forced Senong to come back home.

Six months later, he has found himself heading back to Zimbabwe to take over as head coach at FC Platinum.

He replaces former SuperSport United and Silver Stars winger Joel Luphahla.

His appointment has been confirmed by the club, who have sunk to the bottom half of the standings but still have nine games to play in the league.

“The club is pleased to announce the appointment of Thabo Senong as head coach, subject the completion of contractual and registration formalities,” reads the club statement.

Zimbabwean football has emerged as an alternative attractive market – only second to South Africa – in the COSAFA region in recent months.

With clubs paying in American dollars, they are able to offer packages better than what is offered in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and comparable to the lower end of top-flight clubs.

There are select clubs that can afford to pay coaches USD10 000 in Zimbabwe, and these include Scottland and Hardrock.

Top-earning players are getting annual packages of US$150,000, which explains why Prince Dube, Washington Arubi, Khama Billiat, Knowledge Musona, Emmanuel Jalai, and Gerald Takwara have all opted to return home in recent times.
