HARARE: Leading financial services firm Mukuru has entered into a one-year shirt sponsorship agreement with the Zimbabwe’s senior men’s cricket national team.

The deal, valued at US$300,000, will see Mukuru’s logo prominently displayed on the front of the national team’s jersey across all three formats of the game.

Givemore Makoni, the managing director of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), welcomed the partnership with Mukuru, describing it as a thrilling development that promises to enhance the growth of the sport.

“We are excited to be part of this deal and are genuinely impressed with Mukuru’s support. Their investment in our national team and the broader game is commendable, and it will undoubtedly contribute to our ongoing development efforts,” he said.

The sponsorship deal extends to T20s, ODIs, and Test matches, while also granting ZC the first right of refusal for future engagements over the next three years.

“The sponsorship encompasses all formats—T20, 50-over, and Test cricket. This initial year will see a comprehensive review for subsequent seasons in terms of first-choice sponsorship rights,” Makoni explained.

Meanwhile, ZC chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani remarked on the deal’s significance, describing it as a much-needed boost for local cricket initiatives.

“As an organization, we rely heavily on sponsorship support. This partnership will help bridge the financial gap between our internal revenue generation, standard ICC distributions, and other revenue streams,” he noted.

Douglas Tait-Knight, CEO of Mukuru Financial Services Zimbabwe, framed the agreement as the beginning of a long-term commitment to nurturing the sport’s future.

“Today, we are not just entering a partnership; we are also sharing a common vision,” he said.

“Our goal as a premier financial services provider is to empower customers and the communities we serve.

“Supporting Zimbabwean cricket is an extension of that mission, aimed at cultivating a bright future for the sport and inspiring talented young cricketers,” he stated.

The importance of the partnership was echoed by Mukuru’s chief marketing officer, Brandon Mncube, who highlighted the brand’s dedication to fostering talent.

“For us at Mukuru, it has always been about creating opportunities and investing in beloved sports like cricket,” Mncube explained.

“This sponsorship marks a pivotal milestone, showcasing our commitment to unlocking Africa’s potential on and off the field.

“Cricket embodies resilience, unity, and the resolve to succeed, and we are keen to leverage its impact across diverse audiences.”
