BIRMINGHAM: A drink-driver who was three times over the limit has been warned ‘bailiffs will come knocking’ if he fails to pay his fine.
Tanyaradzwa Magwenzi, of Fairburn Close, Nottingham, was found at the scene of a collision between a Ford Eco Sport and a bollard on May 3 this year.
The 23-year-old, who is not working nor receiving benefits, was fined £1,118 after pleading guilty to drink driving at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, June 2.
He was found to have 106mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath following the collision. Appearing unrepresented at court, he said he was living with his brother and “does not have an income at the moment.”
Prosecuting, Ms Begum said: “Officers were deployed to Constitution Hill after a vehicle had collided with a bollard.
“The defendant initially denied being the driver. Then admitted he had driven to the location.
“He said he travelled from Derby then has driven to a Travelodge where he was staying, before driving to the location. He said his last drink was at 6pm.
“He appeared dazed and smelt of alcohol.”
Magwenzi was a man of good character with no previous convictions before the offence. The magistrates chose to impose a financial penalty rather than a community order.
He was also banned from driving for 24 months. He must pay £1,118, which includes a £738 fine, £295 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.
“If you fail to pay the fine, the bailiffs will come knocking on your door,” said the chair of the Magistrates.
