SOUTH AFRICA: Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has committed to assisting with the repatriation of a family killed in a road accident involving his driver.

On Saturday night, Beauty Shoperai and her one-year-old son, Paul Masunda Junior, were killed after being struck by a car transporting the minister.

Shoperai was trying to reach her husband, Paul Masunda, who had died similarly a few minutes earlier.

Before his death, Masunda worked as a freelance handyman whose main source of income to support his family came from selling firewood.

His family said they do not have the R75,000 required to repatriate the deceased back home to Zimbabwe and have them buried in their hometown of Jerere.

Motsoaledi visited the family at their home in Bela-Bela, Limpopo, accompanied by a small entourage of government officials from his department.

“It’s a tragedy that no human being could have expected, so we came also because the family needs repatriation back to Zimbabwe,” said Motsoaledi.

“It so happens coincidentally that the certification and arrangements to repatriate people are done by the Department of Health, so we are going to see what arrangements we can do for them.”

The Zimbabwean Consulate has also committed to expediting the process, with the family hoping to hold the funeral next Tuesday.
