Barnsley have signed winger Tawanda Chirewa from Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan until the end of the season.
The Zimbabwe international has played ten Premier League games for Wolves since joining from Ipswich Town in 2023, but has been frustrated by a lack of opportunities at Molineux, with only two substitute appearances this season.
Chirewa said, “I’m at a stage of my career right now where I have got a point to prove.
“I need to show what I can do and really impact games. The manager, when I spoke to him, was on the same wavelength, and he sold me amazing ideas of how this club wants to go in these next couple of months.

“Watching them play, the bravery they show is something which I want to show, bravery to go and impact games and win some football games in this league.”
Chirewa, who has also had loan spells at Derby County and Huddersfield Town, is Barnsley’s fifth signing of the January window.
“We’re really pleased to bring Tawanda in,” said Barnsley boss Conor Hourihane.
“He’s a young player with genuine top-level experience and that’s a big asset for us. His Premier League exposure and ability to play across the front line give us another dimension going into the final stretch of the season.”
He’s hungry, he’s quick, and he fits the style we want to play.”
A versatile and dynamic forward, Chirewa has further developed through loan spells at Derby County and Huddersfield Town, gaining experience across the Championship and League One.
Born in Chelmsford and now a full Zimbabwe international, Chirewa began his career at Ipswich Town, becoming the club’s second youngest ever debutant at just 16 years and 31 days.
He joined Wolves in 2023 and quickly progressed into senior football, making appearances in both the Premier League and FA Cup.
Barnsley sit 15th in League One having won just once in their past seven league games.
