Zimbabwe’s Warriors have bowed out of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 after finishing bottom of Group B, marking their sixth group‑stage exit since debuting at the continental showpiece in 2004.

Despite spirited performances, including twice coming from behind against South Africa, a late penalty sealed their fate and extended two decades of frustration for fans.

South Africa’s Oswin Appollis converted the decisive spot‑kick after captain Marvelous Nakamba handled in the box, ending Zimbabwe’s hopes of progression.

Earlier, Tawanda Maswanhise had equalised with a solo effort before Aubrey Modiba’s own goal briefly restored parity.

The Warriors created several chances but failed to convert, leaving them with just one point from three matches.

Egypt topped the group with seven points, South Africa followed with six and Angola finished on two.

Coach Marian Marinica acknowledged the disappointment but pointed to the introduction of 16‑year‑old Tadiwa Chakuchichi – the youngest player at AFCON 2025 –as a sign of future promise.
