Zimbabwe Achievers Awards UK 2026: Nominees announced; as diaspora engagement widens
By Agencies
BIRMINGHAM: The Zimbabwe Achievers Awards has officially announced the nominees for the 2026 United Kingdom edition, with events scheduled to take place on 15 and 16 May 2026 at the Birmingham Conference and Events Centre.
The announcement marks a continuation of the platform’s role in recognising Zimbabwean excellence across the diaspora while facilitating broader conversations on development, collaboration, and transnational engagement.
Now in its sixteenth year, the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards has developed into a multi-faceted initiative that extends beyond recognition.
“The 2026 nominees represent a wide range of professional and community contributions across sectors including business, healthcare, community development, culture, and innovation,” the organisers said.
“This diversity reflects the evolving profile of Zimbabwean diaspora communities, whose activities increasingly intersect with entrepreneurship, public service, and cultural production in their host countries while maintaining links to Zimbabwe.”
The 2026 edition follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards and the International Organization for Migration, a United Nations agency.
The partnership is expected to support more structured approaches to diaspora engagement, particularly in areas such as skills mobility, youth participation, and development oriented initiatives. Within African policy frameworks, diaspora communities are increasingly recognised as contributors to economic development through remittances, knowledge exchange, and investment linkages.

Meanwhile, this year’s awards will be held over two days, combining policy dialogue with celebratory recognition.
“On 15 May 2026, the Diaspora Investment and Skills Forum will bring together entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, development partners, and professionals. The forum is expected to provide a platform for engagement on investment opportunities in Zimbabwe, innovation and technology transfer, and the role of youth entrepreneurship in shaping future economic trajectories,” the organisers said.
“On 16 May 2026, the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony will recognise outstanding individuals and organisations across multiple sectors. The ceremony will include a range of categories designed to reflect both professional achievement and community impact.
“In addition to the awards presentations, the evening will feature honorary recognitions and cultural programming, including a tribute to Thomas Mapfumo, whose music has played a significant role in articulating social and political narratives within Zimbabwe and across its diaspora.”
Public participation remains a central component of the awards process. Voting will open on 15 April and close on 30 April 2026, with public votes contributing 40 percent of the final outcome.
The remaining 60 percent will be determined by an independent panel and advisory board, a structure intended to balance public engagement with evaluative oversight. Organisers indicate that this approach is designed to support transparency and credibility in the selection process.
Over time, the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards has expanded its scope to include year round engagement activities that address issues such as diaspora investment, skills exchange, and youth empowerment.
This evolution reflects wider shifts in how diaspora platforms operate, moving from singular events towards ongoing programmes that engage with economic, social, and cultural dimensions of development.
As preparations continue for the Birmingham events, organisers have indicated that the 2026 edition aims to build on previous years by strengthening partnerships, expanding participation, and deepening engagement across sectors.
The combination of policy dialogue and public recognition is intended to reflect the multiple ways in which diaspora communities contribute to both their countries of residence and origin.
