ZBC: Robson Mhandu leaves broadcaster; CEO resigns after being suspended
By Staff Reporter
ZIMBABWE Broadcasting Corporation CEO, Adelaide Chikunguru, has resigned a day after being suspended pending investigations.
Chikunguru had been suspended with immediate effect last Wednesday.
However, the Board said in a statement Friday that she had tendered her resignation.
“The Chief Executive Officer (“the CEO”) of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, Ms. Adelaide Chikunguru, has resigned,” reads the statement.
“A resignation is a unilateral act repudiating the employment contract and requires neither the employer’s consent nor concurrence therein.
“The resignation has taken effect by operation of law today, the 1st of March 2024, when the Corporation was formally served with the same. The Finance Director Assel Machakata will remain the Acting CEO pending the appointment of a substantive CEO.”
Meanwhile, Director Radio Services Robson Mhandu also leaves the Corporation after his contract expired and the Board decide not to renew it.
Mhandu was suspended in September last year following allegations of sexual harassment.
In a statement Friday, the ZBC Board said; Robson Mhandu “was on a fixed term contract which lapsed by operation of law on 29th February 2024. His contract has not been renewed. He was given prior and adequate notice of the non-renewal.
“Mr. Mhandu ceases to be an employee of the Corporation by operation of law, and without prejudice to the ongoing inquiry by the Zimbabwe Gender Commission. The Corporation will consider and implement any appropriate recommendations the Zimbabwe Gender Commission may make.”
