The fellowship was designed to support capacity development of young women scientists from developing countries, with priorities given the nationals of the LDCs.

Five young women scientists from Bangladesh, Colombia, DR Congo, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe were selected as the pilot cohort.  They were hosted at ICGEB Labs in India and South Africa in 2022, and received trainings to apply the latest techniques and methodologies to their research topics.
