UK: Zimbabwean stabbed to death at house party; police identify man charged with murder

ENGLAND: A Derbyshire man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal stabbing at a house party in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
Police officers were called on Wednesday at 1.21am to a house on Cooperative Street after reports of a stabbing.
Lazarus Makono, 26, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A murder investigation was launched with detectives working around the clock to find those responsible. A total of five arrests have been made in connection to Lazarus’ death,” police said in a statement.
“Today (24 February) Terrance Mlotshwa, 27, of Ripley Avenue, Derby has been charged with murder. He remains in police custody and will appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Monday 26 February 2024.
“Previous arrests of two women, aged 20 and 25, and a 32-year-old man remain released on police bail.”
A friend, Shania, who considered Makono as close as a brother, shared reflections on his profound impact of his tragic passing.
“He was the kindest person, always there for everyone,” she she said.
Senior Investigating Officer Ben Wood added: “This is a truly tragic and devastating incident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning, and I want to assure the wider community and the public that we are working around the clock to work out exactly what happened on the day and the circumstances around the incident.
“We are still seeking information from the public that could help officers with this investigation, and we encourage anyone with information to get in touch by calling 101 or using our online portal and quoting incident number 54 of 21 February 2024 when you get in touch.
“Lazarus’ family are heartbroken and grieving during this very difficult time, and my thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.”
