A 24-year-old Ugandan man, Tom Ssekamwa, has been arrested in Masvingo, after he was allegedly found with sex toys and assorted items.
Ssekamwa appeared at the Masvingo Magistrates Court following his arrest, facing charges of contravening the Censorship and Entertainment Control Act or criminal nuisance.

He was arrested together with travel partner Lucas Slavik from Czech Republic who is charged with publishing falsehoods.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) revealed that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) received an anonymous tip-off on Thursday, August 1, 2024, leading to the arrest.

According to the NPA, the tip-off indicated that Ssekamwa had sex toys at Backpackers Rest Budget Accommodation in Masvingo.

“It is the State’s case that on August 1st, 2024, the police received a tip-off that the accused person was in possession of s3x toys at Backpackers Rest Budget Accommodation in Masvingo,” the NPA said in a statement.

“The police acted on the tip-off, proceeded to the said place, and conducted a search, which allegedly led to the discovery of s3x toys and a lubricant for men from the accused person’s bag. The accused person was arrested.”

Ssekamwa was denied bail after prosecutors argued that he was a flight risk. The case was remanded to August 16 for trial.

Under Zimbabwe’s censorship and entertainment control law, possessing or selling adult t0ys is illegal.

In 2022, a popular social media character also faced legal trouble for blatantly peddling and dealing with adult toys.
