Zimbabwean businessman Maxwell Mlangeni is currently fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds in a brutal attack outside his company’s premises in Witbank, Mpumalanga, South Africa on Tuesday afternoon.

Mlangeni, the founder of Today’s Destiny Logistics, was rushed to the hospital following the shooting. He remains in critical condition as medical professionals work tirelessly to stabilise him. Mlangeni was driving his Ferrari at the time of the attack. The car was left riddled with bullet holes, highlighting the severity of the assault.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the attackers targeted Mlangeni shortly after he arrived at his business premises on Bethal Road in Witbank. He had just reached his workplace when they struck.

“Preliminary information suggests that three armed suspects approached his vehicle and opened fire while he was still inside. The suspects then fled the scene,” Mdhluli stated.

Authorities have launched an investigation, treating the case as attempted murder. The motive for the attack is still unknown, and authorities have not made any arrests yet.

According to Today’s Destiny Logistics website, the company started as a logistics provider in 2011. Over the years, it has expanded its services to include procurement for large organizations as well as warehouse and distribution services.

The company, which began with only its founders, has grown to a team of over 300 employees. Initially operating with just one truck, it now manages a fleet of more than 200 vehicles, including tippers, refrigerated trucks, tankers, and flatbeds, enabling it to cater to diverse client needs.

Mpumalanga has been experiencing a surge in violent crimes, with business owners and prominent individuals increasingly being targeted. The province has seen a rise in hijackings, armed robberies, and contract killings, raising concerns about public safety and security.

Witbank, in particular, has been a hotspot for violent incidents, with criminals taking advantage of its bustling economic activity.
