SA: Who are the 7 Zimbabwean stars remaining in the DStv Premiership?
By farpost.co.za
With star player Khama Billiat exiting Kaizer Chiefs, the number of Zimbabwean players in the DStv Premiership continues to shrink.
Star player Billiat recently left Kaizer Chiefs despite being offered a new deal. The 32-year-old’s movements are yet to be established.
Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki revealed that the Zimbabwean had agreed to put pen to paper before going awol three weeks ago.
And with less than a week remaining before the 2023/24 season kicks off, it is doubtful that the former Chiefs attacker Khama Billiat will play in the DStv Premiership.
Billiat is joined by gangly striker Tawanda Macheke, who left Moroka Swallows at the end of last season.
In addition, former SuperSport United forward Evans Rusike also left Moroka Swallows.
THE ZIMBABWEAN STARS REMAINING IN THE DSTV PREMIERSHIP
Last season, ten Zimbabweans remained in the PSL. But as it stands, only seven Zimbabweans have managed to retain their places in the lucrative DStv Premiership.
SuperSport United boosts five Zimbabweans, namely Onismor Bhasera, George Chigova, Washington Arubi, Terrence Dzvukamanja and Ronald Pfumbidzai.
Bhasera is one of the longest-serving Matsatsantsa players and has been the team’s captain in the most recent season.
Goalkeeper George Chigova has been in SuperSport United’s ranks since October 2020.
Although Chigova has not been training due to an undisclosed illness, he remains a key part of Gavin Hunt’s team.
They also roped in the services of Arubi, Dzvukamanja and Pfumbidzai from Marumo Gallants, Orlando Pirates and Chippa United, respectively.
Goalie, Arubi snubbed Sekhukhune United to rejoin the Pretoria-based side, with high hopes of strengthening their goalkeeping department.
Terrence Dzvukamanja made a shock move to dump Pirates, having already been drawn in their plans.
The former Bidvest Wits man turned out to be a reliable goal-getter for Pirates last season when they won the MTN8 Cup and the Nedbank Cup.
On the other hand, Pfumbidzai was a top performer at Chippa United, where he got some crucial goals that helped them survive relegation.
The Zimbabweans are expected to play key roles as SuperSport United aim to make a mark in the CAF Confederations Cup.
Striker Knox Mutizwa and left-back Devine Lunga complete the list of Zimbabweans left in the DStv Premiership.
The duo is in Golden Arrows’ books, although Lunga is on loan from the champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.
