SA: Fourteen arrested for kidnapping Zimbabwean businessman
By SA Media
SOUTH AFRICA: The police’s anti-kidnapping task team arrested fourteen people, including three Chinese nationals and two Mozambicans for allegedly kidnapping a Zimbabwean businessman in Gauteng on Sunday.
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said by Monday afternoon, the SAPS task team, working closely with private security partners, found the victim safe at an identified address in Diepkloof, Soweto.
“They also managed to trace the fourteen kidnappers at various locations, the first eight were traced to an apartment in Greenstone Park, and the rest were arrested in Sandton,” she said.
Mathe said multiple speed point machines, a large sum of cash that was withdrawn from the victim’s bank account, and two firearms including a firearm stolen during a house robbery in Linden in 2023, were among the items recovered during the arrests.
She said in recent weeks, the SAPS was able to intercept several kidnappers linked to syndicates who targeted businessmen.
The suspects are due to appear in court soon.
