Pfumbidzai speaks on his return to Zimbabwe national team fold
By Agencies
SuperSport United left-back Ronald Pfumbidzai has spoken of his relief upon return to the Zimbabwe national team fold after the 18-month FIFA ban.
The talented left-back Ronald Pfumbidzai was part the Warriors’ training camp during the international break.
This was the first time foreign-based Zimbabwe national team players converged since the ban was lifted in July.
While other nations played friendly matches in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Warriors played friendly matches with division one teams in the country.
Hopes are that the matches have helped coach Baltermar Brito pick his men, as they return to competitive football.
The Warriors are set to face Rwanda and Nigeria in the qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup, on 13 and 20 November respectively. They are also in the same group with Bafana Bafana.
Indications are that the Zimbabwe national team will host Nigeria in Rwanda as they do not have a CAF-approved stadium.
Why Pfumbidza is thrilled by return
Nevertheless, the ex-Chippa United left-back who was part of the four-day Warriors training camp is on cloud nine on his return to the Zimbabwe national team fold.
“We are happy to be part of the squad. It’s something that we always wanted as players,” Pfumbidzai is quoted by the Herald.
“We wished for the ban to be lifted, because not playing international football wasn’t good for us as players.
“And I had a great time here in camp and took time to know some players whom I had never met.
“So this was good for us. We learnt a lot from the coaches and we had some positivity as a group.
“I think everyone made an effort to put their best in training. What’s left now is to go back to our respective clubs and do well so that we earn the national team call up.”
With the Warriors camp done and dusted, the 28-year-old shifts focus to Matsatsantsa. They face Polokwane in the Carling Cup on Sunday.
“I now shift my focus to the club, it’s back to business. Honestly, I had a great time being in the team and also back home with my family.
“I had missed them. At the club, I can’t say much right now but I’m happy there. I am getting game time and my aim is to just help them in achieving their targets,” he said.
