It gets messy! Mliswa claims Chiwenga demanded six Rolls Royces from Chivayo; got over US$1 million in cash

Former independent legislator, Temba Mliswa, has sensationally claimed that vice president (VP) Constantino Chiwenga demanded six Rolls Royces for his wedding from controoversional businessman Wicknell Chivayo.

Mliswa added that Chwenga also received more than $1 million in cash from Chivayo as the corruption row at the top of the ruling Zanu PF party deepens.

Chiwenga has yet to respond to the allegations.

“First of all, the VP allegedly asked for 6 Rolls Royces for his wedding plus US$250K for his wedding preparations. During the wedding itself he received US$250K as a wedding gift. Of that amount only US$50K was announced publicly at the wedding per his request,” wrote Mliswa.

“For the honeymoon, at the luxurious Four Seasons in Seychelles, the new couple got another US$250K from the same person. On their return, through South Africa the newly wedded VP’s partner allegedly got 1 million Rands for shopping.

He continued; “The VP himself reportedly asked and got another 1 million Rands to get a gift for his wife. After this they requested another US$450K from Chivayo which was meant to acquire 3 apartments for the VP’s children.

“The children had to move out of his new house because he had gotten married. The apartments needed a total of US$450K. This is where problems, which led to the recent move to get Chivayo arrested, began.”

Mliswa’s expose follows a stormy Zanu PF politiburo meeting earlier this month where Chiwenga reportedly presented an explosive dossier about corruption in the country and demanded the arrest of the cash-splashing Chivayo, tycoon Kudakwashe Tagwirei, gold dealer Scott Sakupwanya, GeoPomona CEO Dilesh Nguwaya.

All four businessmen are closely linked to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his family.

Chivayo and Tagwirei have spent million of dollars in cash and vehicle donations, raising questions about the source of the funds.

Following that meeting, Mnangagwa reshuffled the politburo, removing Obert Mpfou – a claimed Chwienga ally – from the secretary general position and reassigning him to ICT, while justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi was handed the legal secretary portfolio.

Rifts in the ruling party have been worsened by a campign by allies of the Zanu PF leader to extend Mnangagwa’s rule to 2030, beyond his Constitutional two-term limit, the second of which ends in 2028.

The campaign is bitterly opposed by allies of Chiwenga, who claim that Mnangagwa also reneged on an agreement between the two to serve just one term after taking over power following the 2017 military coup.
