INDIA: Zimbabwean student dies from injuries after brutal beating

A ZIMBABWEAN student died Thursday, eight days after being suffering head injuries from a brutal attack with baseball bats, sticks, and sharp-edged weapons.

The murderous attack was made on 22-year-old Ziweya Leeroy on August 13, a day after he had an altercation with Guru Kashi University security guard Dilpreet Singh.
Leeroy was pursuing BSc Radiology and Imaging Technology (RIT), having joined the university in 2023.
According to local media reports, police have since arrested seven suspects over the fatal attack.
Officers indicated that during initial investigations, it was found that Ziweya had an altercation with security guard Dilpreet Singh on August 12.
The following day, when Leeroy stepped out of the university campus in the late afternoon, he was ambushed by the accused with three accomplices.
The student sustained serious head injuries Leeroy was initially taken to Talwandi Sabo Civil Hospital but later transferred to AIIMS Bathinda due to the severity of his injuries.
Bathinda senior police superintendent (SSP) Amneet Kondal confirmed that one of the accused, “Seven persons have been arrested, and efforts are being made to arrest two more persons, who are suspected to be associated with the attack.
“The section pertaining to murder has been added to the already registered case. Further investigations are being made.”
