FC Platinum make statement of intent as title race heats up

THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title race is heating up with leaders Ngezi Platinum dropping points over the weekend.

The Mhondoro Ngezi side fell by a solitary goal to resurgent FC Platinum at Mandava in a statement of intent by the Zvishavane side.

The victory takes FC Platinum to within reach of leaders Ngezi Platinum with eight rounds of matches remaining in the league.

The defeat is a blow to Takesure Chiragwi’s charges as they aim to end FC Platinum’s monopoly over local league.

FC Platinum are seeking a record fifth championship on the trot.

Back in Mhondoro, wheels continued to come off for Highlanders as they suffered a 0-3 defeat at the hands of equally troubled Simba Bhora.

The defeat takes Highlanders to third spot below FC Platinum.

A Tinashe Balakasi brace rounded off the scoring for Simba Bhora in a match that Highlanders protested poor officiating.

The victory eases pressure on Simba Bhora coach Tonderai Ndiraya after falling to Cranborne Bullets midweek.

In the capital, there was no joy for for Dynamos who suffered a shock defeat to Herentals on Sunday. 

DeMbare fell to the Students to extend their winless run against Herentals.

The victory puts doubts on Dynamos’ hopes of securing the title as they trail Ngezi by six points.

However, while there was unhappiness in the blue half of Harare, CAPS United withstood the heat in Colliery to edge Hwange by a narrow 1-nil win.

The victory puts an end to CAPS United’s nine-match winless run as they boost their chances of surviving the chop.

The win gives Lloyd Chitembwe room to breathe as pressure was mounting on him and his charges.
