Derek Chisora Reveals Plans Before Retirement: “After That I’m Done”
By Agencies
Though some fight fans have began to wonder if heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora will ever hang up the gloves, he has finally gave an indicator that retirement is on the horizon.
Concerns about Chisora’s long term health have been growing for years now, and he looked a shadow of his former self in his most recent bout against Gerald Washington last month.
In a recent interview with NoSmokeSport, ‘Del Boy’ revealed he plans to have three more fights and then he will call time on his storied, roller coaster career.
“I’m going to have one fight before the end of the year, then another two fights, and then I’m done.”
Many observers feel Chisora should have bowed out of the sport after his trilogy contest with Tyson Fury last December.
Though the 39 year old barely landed a glove on Fury and was on the end of a beating for ten rounds, he was reportedly very well paid, with the fight taking place on pay per view and selling 60,000 tickets at Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium.
However, it became quickly clear that Chisora had not had his fill just yet, and the boxing world collectively winced when news surfaced that he would be fighting on Anthony Joshua’s undercard on August 12th.
And though his laboured win over the faded Washington that night was not as punishing as some of his other outings over the years, it was still clear to see that the Zimbabwe born adopted Londoner is a fighter well past his sell by date.
