Benjamin Lock issues update after being bizarrely hit with racket in head

Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Lock revealed that he suffered a concussion after being bizarrely hit with the racket in his head.

This week, world No 346 Lock was scheduled to compete at the Playford Challenger in Australia. Then, a pretty bizarre video was posted on X, which showed Lock getting hit in the head after Li Tu’s racket slipped out of his hand during a practice session.

Lock immediately grabbed onto his head and it was evident that he was in pain. Tu also immediately came to check on Lock.

Lock, who was drawn to play against Chak Wong in the Playford first round, withdrew from the tournament and addressed the bizarre practice moment on his X account.

“No tennis this week. Out with a concussion. Will be back in a few days,” Lock wrote on X.

Lock played in Shenzhen last week

Lock last competed in Shenzhen last week, where he suffered a first-round loss to Tsung-Hao Huang.

Huang, ranked at No 526 in the world, beat Lock 7-5 6-4. Against Huang, Lock missed out on two break points in the seventh game but also saved a break point in the eighth game. In the ninth game, Lock failed to convert two more break point chances as Huang opened a 5-4 lead.

Lock ended up paying the price for not realizing any of his four break point chances as Huang broke the Zimbabwean in the 12th game when he was serving to stay in the first set. After winning the first set, Huang also broke Lock in the sixth game of the second set for a 4-2 lead.

In the seventh game, Lock missed out on two break points as Huang took a 5-2 lead. But Lock refused to quit as he got the break back in the ninth game when Huang was serving for the match. Unfortunately for Lock, he got broken again in the 10th game – the game in which he was serving to stay in the match.
