Comedian Munya Chawawa’s life from rise to fame to stunning girlfriend
Comedian Munya Chawawa first burst onto the scene back in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic.
Much to the delight of social media users everywhere, he provided some welcome relief – and humour – to the mundane days of lockdown with his different styles of comedy.
From political satire to character comedy to black comedy to improv, the 30 year old is a jack of all trades when it comes to being funny. But aside from all that, what else do we know about Munya?

How old is Munya Chawawa?
Munya was born on 29th December 1992, making him 30 years old – and a Capricorn.
Where did he grow up?
Munya was born in Derby in the UK, but grew up in Zimbabwe. During his youth, his family returned to the UK, and settled in Norwich, Norfolk where he studied at Notre Dame High School.
Speaking to Patta in 2020 about his roots in Zimbabwe, the 30 year old said: “I tell people I’m Zimbabwean because, you know when you just connect with a place so deeply? Growing up in Zimbabwe, people are so positive and so happy you really do believe you can do anything.”
What is he known for?
The comedian is most recognised for his development and portrayal of characters, including chef, Jonny Oliver (a parody of Jamie Oliver) and Unknown P, a posh drill raper.
On the creation on Unknown P, Munya said he developed him “as a nod towards the appropriation and false ownership of black culture that often happens in western societies.”
Even though past interviews have seen Munya claim he’s been doing comedy “for years,” his big break really came during the pandemic.
Mainly because of his 2019 Fire In the Booth freestyle and the parody news sketches he dropped.
Since his rapid rise to stardom, the comedian has starred on many primetime shows, including Celebrity MasterChef 2021, and Taskmaster.
He’s also fronted his own show: “Munya Chawawa: How to Survive a Dictator,” which follows him travelling to South Africa to document the life of Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe.
Plus, he was cast in Netflix’s The Sandman as Choronzon.

Munya studied Psychology at the University of Sheffield and graduated in 2014.
When speaking about the help he’s had from the uni, he said: “I presented on the red carpet at the BRITs 2014, became a music presenter for PopShack TV and 4Music, and even became the first student in the UK to wear Google Glass to record their graduation.”

Yes, Munya has been in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend, Gaby, who works in music management, for around six years.
According to a profile in The Guardian, the couple live together, and as per The Evening Standard, she’s been “very patient” with his rapid rise to fame.
