Zimbabwean up-and-coming winger Benjani Jnr Amon Mwaruwari has signed for Highlanders FC, effectively reuniting with his legendary father and coach.

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit confirmed on Monday the recruitment of the son to Bosso coach Benjani Mwaruwari, Premier League and Zimbabwean icon.

“Please join us in giving a warm welcome to our newest family member, Benjani Jnr Amon Mwaruwari. A pacey and exciting winger, Benjani arrives ready to wear the famous Black and White with pride. Welcome to Highlanders Football Club. We wish you every success in the famous Black and White,” reads Highlanders FC’s statement.

The 21-year-old was based in the United Kingdom, where he struggled to breakthrough with lower league sides.

The winger-cum-forward signed his first professional contract with fifth-tier English National League club Yeovil Town in 2022 after graduating from their academy team.

With the under-18’s, the young forward scored 25 goals and registered 16 assists in 30 games.

The youngster had moved to the academy team from Portsmouth FC, the first Premier League team the father joined after arriving from AJ Auxerre in France.

However, Benjani Jnr did not stay long as Yeovil released him a year later. He eventually moved to ninth tier Shepton Mallet AFC before going to Bridgwater FC for a loan spell. He returned to the parent club in 2024.
