Zimbabwe diaspora remittances rose 14% to $2.45 billion last year
By Bloomberg News
Zimbabweans living abroad sent $2.45 billion back to the southern African nation last year, a 14% increase over 2024.
Central bank date showed that the major source of diaspora payments was the UK with $709.6 million, followed by South Africa at $702.6 million.
The country has suffered a prolonged exodus of workers caused by years of economic decline marked by currency crises and soaring inflation. Official data shows 1 million people living abroad, but unofficial estimates put the number three times higher.
