DENMARK: FC Copenhagen coaches upbeat about Zimbabwean signing

THE coaching staff at top Danish side FC Copenhagen have welcomed the addition of Zimbabwean defender, Munashe Garan’anga, to their playing squad, describing him as a “physically strong player who is skilled with the ball”.

Garananga is the newest player at F.C. Copenhagen, with the 23-year-old centre-back having joined on a 4-year deal.

Before he latest switch, Garan’anga was playing for Danish side Mechelen who bought him in January 2024 from FC Sheriff in Moldova.

Commenting of the deal, FC Copenhagen sports director Sune Smith-Nielsen said; “We are bringing in a player who has performed incredibly well in the Belgian league and who has drawn attention to himself after he has taken some big steps in a short time.

“The scouting team with Andreas Hintze in the lead has done their job well, and they have followed Munashe for a long time. It has been obvious that we have lacked a player for this position, and we have now covered that with the arrival of Munashe.

Head coach Jacob Neestrup added; “We get a physically strong player who is skilled with the ball.

“It will help us in the way we want to defend and also in the build-up. We look forward to bringing Munashe’s qualities into the team and getting to know him better at the same time.”

“It is an important addition to the team, which strengthens our opportunities in defence.”

Meanwhile the Zimbabwean star said he was keen to win the Danish Superliga title with Copenhagen

“I have had no doubt that this is an opportunity I should seize, and it will be really cool to get started at F.C. Copenhagen,” he told the club website.

“I have not been able to avoid noticing the club’s great results. I’m looking forward to joining the team and helping win the Danish championship next season.”

Garan’anga has played four international matches for Zimbabwe, after making his debut in November 2023.
